How Routines Can Help You and Your Baby: Creating a Calmer, Happier Daily Schedule

Newborn Routine

When a routine is created, the baby’s health, their personality, and family’s needs should be considered.

There is no one-size-fits-all routine that works for all babies. Routines need to remain flexible and used as a guide with no rigid structure, more of a pattern.

I’ve looked after many babies over the years and have seen how greatly a routine can benefit the whole family.

Babies crave certainty, including knowing when their next feed is coming. They feel secure and comforted by knowing what is happening and when. Instead of snacking all day, a routine-fed baby will build an appetite for full regular feeds, they will begin to nap better during the day, and have longer stretches of deep sleep at night.

The wonder of a routine is that it follows a baby’s natural feeding and sleeping patterns, a pattern the baby will eventually settle into, but will achieve much sooner thanks to a little help and guidance from you.

A routine simply provides a soft structure to your baby’s day, giving parents knowledge and helping them to understand their baby better. As part of my visit, I will provide you with an age specific, individualized routine for you and your baby.
